Feeling better

Progress: The above photo shows the preliminary layout of current squares. I’m trying to keep a circular flow through both sides of the design. I’ll audition (swapping) the wheat and Hazelnut images to balance things a bit more. The right half is feeling heavy. I also used the image of the first grainery building, rather thanContinue reading “Feeling better”

Center Panel Work

Slowly the central long panel is coming into form. I started with a super basic line cut. Then I moved into something more complicated and connected to the community. It’s still underway and not yet finished. Below is the piece to connect to the paper mill in town. I spent some time on their websiteContinue reading “Center Panel Work”

Clover

This was probably the quickest hand-cut paper piece I’ve done so far. I’ll probably alter the arrangement a tad more, to keep better connection to the sides. Clover is quite an abundant crop in the Halsey area due to the local honey producers. Back in 2014, when I created the camas project, I made sureContinue reading “Clover”

A+B=C?

Sometimes adding two images together is the answer. Or not. I’m still undecided. I like the leaf cuts and I also like the developing filbert clusters. After playing around with the printer, tracing paper, shrinking & enlarging, I might have found a possible answer for this panel. Below is the 8″ x 8″ hand cut paperContinue reading “A+B=C?”

Filbert start

Monday I started playing with a filbert design that’s been rattling around my brain for the past couple of days. This time I jumped over a couple of design steps and went quickly to cutting on an 8″x8″ square. Below is the flip side of the work. The distinctive developing nut clusters remains missing fromContinue reading “Filbert start”

Working with pain

Thursday hasn’t been particularly fun. I spent most of last night tossing and turning due to sciatic nerve pain. When I got up, the pain continued. I tried to take it easy, laying low, but that doesn’t make it better. So I decided to work on a couple of items for the garden sale on Saturday.Continue reading “Working with pain “

Solstice Bee

Art in Rural Communities: Halsey 2016 Project How can it be Solstice already? Time is just zooming by so quickly. Today I worked on two squares: continuation of the radish with bee and the Cross Bros grainery. The honey bee has taken up most of my day. I worked from photos taken over the pastContinue reading “Solstice Bee”

8″ x 8″

So, how does one approach an idea for a wall installation? Well, I decided to start with cut paper, since that’s what got me this gig. Currently, I’m attempting to portray one of the multiple bee/honey crops out in the Halsey area. Clover, Radish, and Meadow Foam are all crops around the area for honeyContinue reading “8″ x 8″”

Radish Blooms

Sketching started today with a look at radish blooms and seed pods. The flowers are mainly white with some pink. I think, with some serious cutting I can give a good look to these plants. Hopefully. There is a lot of nice negative space created as stems and pods overlap. Somehow I need to interjectContinue reading “Radish Blooms”
