Contemplating a possibility?

Several years ago I managed to get a small art project that allowed me to spread my creativity to a different level: The world of public art. I never thought I might be interested in creating public art, but it was enjoyable (and also a pain). Yesterday another possible project appeared in my inbox. ItContinue reading “Contemplating a possibility?”

2019 Art Acquisition Grant

Today, the official announcement went up on the Oregon Arts Commission website listing the 2019 Art Acquisition Grants and my name is on the list.  The City of Halsey were not able to raise enough funds to cover the cost of “From the Land”. They applied for a small grant to fund the remainderContinue reading “2019 Art Acquisition Grant”

Feeling chuffed

It’s official! I have art on permanent public display in the council chambers of Halsey Oregon. Wow, I just can’t believe it’s really there and installed, plus giving the space a more dramatic sense. The photos are from Hilary Norton, City of Halsey administrator/recorder. The work was installed yesterday. I’ll hopefully head down next weekContinue reading “Feeling chuffed”

Removing the Sculpture

All good things must come to an end, even temporary wall sculptures. Art in Rural Communities 2016-2017 was installed for 5 months in Halsey Oregon. Monday morning I removed my portion, “From the Land”, and brought it home. Was it a success? How does one measure a success?? It’s difficult to tell from a smallContinue reading “Removing the Sculpture”

First 8

Somehow, I’ve managed to get to this point, completing the first 8 panels for the Halsey project. The actual wall placement isn’t correct yet, but there’s still more to figure out. The Meadowfoam flowers completed the set. Interestingly, here at home the city has been working on the water main/meter for the past 3 days.Continue reading “First 8”

Chopping

The household has finally settled back into a normal routine. We had a nephew, on leave from the army, visit for 5 days. It’s always nice to see him because it gets Dave out on new adventures. This visit involved two days of fishing. I stayed home with barking dogs. In addition to the nephew,Continue reading “Chopping”

The Big Picture

I’m a tad tired today and not feeling very productive. Tomorrow is the first scheduled deadline for the project: The plan for the art installation in the specific space and short description for the community and property owner. Hopefully the above diagram will provide enough general information for all parties involved. I’ll spend the restContinue reading “The Big Picture”

8″ x 8″

So, how does one approach an idea for a wall installation? Well, I decided to start with cut paper, since that’s what got me this gig. Currently, I’m attempting to portray one of the multiple bee/honey crops out in the Halsey area. Clover, Radish, and Meadow Foam are all crops around the area for honeyContinue reading “8″ x 8″”

Quilts and Wheat

Art in Rural Communities: Halsey Project 2016 I didn’t sleep much last night because I couldn’t turn off my brain. Things are certainly shifting and moving with design ideas for the wall project. Friday I took a trip to Eugene and went off 99W for a couple of photos. The skies were filled with dynamic clouds,Continue reading “Quilts and Wheat”

Coffee, Donuts, and a Wall

Halsey Public Art Project: the start Wednesday morning I traveled south to Halsey City Hall for a meeting with the Coffee and Donuts group. That morning the group was there to put forth ideas of “what makes Halsey unique, what is the town known for and how can two artists capture these ideas into 3DContinue reading “Coffee, Donuts, and a Wall”
