Attaching grass seed securely and keeping it from falling off the forms during wax application ended up being a challenging task. I could imagine the wax bath becoming clogged with oodles and oodles of loose seed. A cleaning nightmare! First idea: sandwich seed between 2 sheets of paper, similar to what I did with the ashes.Continue reading “Sticking Seed”

Productive day
It was quite the day. I worked on finally finishing off part of the purple flowers with gold stamens. Now I need to create more stamens and cover them in gold leaf. The doors started receiving some drawing tests. That’s Mary’s peak on the right. It happens to be the highest peak of the coastContinue reading “Productive day”
Painting
During childhood, my sister caught me drawing on the walls and curtains of her bedroom. I was probably only 5 or 6 years old. In my brain, they needed color (which happened to be an orange crayon). Big sister wasn’t terribly fond of me after that (but she got over it). I even pushed myContinue reading “Painting”
Ledger Camas
I acquired a wonderful 1967 ledger book while clearing out the parents home after their death. The business name wasn’t included, but I highly suspect it was from the one my dad worked for. After ripping out several back pages and torturing them like crazy (and boy, did I torture them!), I determined they couldn’tContinue reading “Ledger Camas”
Love in a brown paper bag
I thoroughly enjoy print exchanges, especially when the package arrives! Oh, the excitement of opening the envelope to discover the new goodies! About on par with childhood memories of Christmas morning. This year I feel so lucky to have received work from my Idaho friends, Welsh friends, and several from other locations around the USContinue reading “Love in a brown paper bag”
Hands & Gold
What happens when hand joints start to age and change their mind about jobs we ask of them? Over the past week, three fingers on my right hand have been abused to the point of massive swelling and some serious pain. Today was the first morning I’ve woken up to decreased swelling and pain. OfContinue reading “Hands & Gold”
Half-way done?
Motivation has been sliding out the door along with my energy levels. Yes, I get bored quickly when having to create multiples of anything and that’s probably why I attempt projects like this. It forces me to confront this problem head on. That’s probably why I never settle on just one art form to pursue. I’mContinue reading “Half-way done?”
Paper and Shadows
I have quite a bit of scrap paper laying around waiting to join the recycle bin. Rather than just dumping it, I started working the scraps into other forms. Where this will lead, I’m uncertain. Maybe it won’t lead anywhere, but it helps to process other ideas. 🙂
More supplies
It’s rather difficult to move forward on a project when supplies run out. Let alone find a source for something you know comes in super long lengths but the box chain home improvement centers don’t carry. Thank goodness for our little Robnett’s Hardware store in Corvallis! They carry 20ft lengths of rebar and cut toContinue reading “More supplies”
Ash Flower
Finally getting close to wrapping up the 3rd camas plant. The black bits on the petals are crumbled up ashes from a book. I’ve run out of rebar and haven’t been able to find another source of recycled/reused material. The local Habitat for Humanity shops are totally empty (but have a great supply of hollowContinue reading “Ash Flower”
