The phrase I received this year: She advocates for peace. What I came up with…. Peace symbols are cut paper stitched together and hanging from a top bar inside the frame, acting like a quilt. Background is watercolor and pencil. Same frame as last year. Reception is on Thursday June 3 at the Corvallis publicContinue reading “she project 2010”

stalled project
Something interesting has started growing on my pig gut. Another artist had asked if there were problems with things growing on or consuming the pig/hog intestine sculptures after drying. Organic materials… you never know! On initial thought, I replied “No”. However I should probably revise that answer. After four or five days of drying, myContinue reading “stalled project”
5 drying
Heavy rain showers, sun breaks, hail & wind, we had it all today! George and I made our rounds through mushy fields at the park. I saw two red-tailed hawks and one eagle. I managed to finish 5 pig gut covered wire “pillow” forms this morning and the house still reeks of it. Here theyContinue reading “5 drying”
More wire and gut
I’ve been playing around with more wire in hopes of finding something that feels right. This concept has been in the works for a couple of months and I was anticipating finishing it for the Howland Community open. But then life changed. Current status: in progress. Displayed on the table are the wire forms waitingContinue reading “More wire and gut”
The Arrangement
Many of you have requested an image posted of the newest project. Since I just sent the image off to the Beet Gallery, you might as well get a peek at it too. Darn and drat to those couple of wrinkles on the cloth in the first image! This is probably one of my betterContinue reading “The Arrangement”
Reliquary Project: Inspiration
Back at the beginning of October, the write-up for exhibit bid book was due. Hummm, I didn’t make that date. Hester kindly reminded us slackers on Oct16 that they were due by the 19th. So where did my inspiration come from? Let me pass along what I wrote: Back in late July of this year,Continue reading “Reliquary Project: Inspiration”
Reliquary Project: Finished??
Here are some final images with window coverings in place. Lighting and battery pack will be installed tonight. Tomorrow it’s off to the Arts Center where I hope it will sell!
Reliquary Project: The Heart
Tuesday was the sculpture covering day. What does that mean? That refers to utilizing hog gut to cover a wire structure. Hog/pig gut is amazing to work with. It can be stretched over a form to create a semi transparent covering when dried. Color can be applied using inks or watercolors. The intestines are packedContinue reading “Reliquary Project: The Heart”
Reliquary Project: Handle
Since the form has been simple, the handle should probably also fall into that category. I did play around with driftwood branches, rocks and carved walnut, but simple straight lines prevail. More sanding and addition of a slight bevel to the base will most likely happen today. Plus gluing of handle parts. In the photosContinue reading “Reliquary Project: Handle”
Reliquary Project: Router and battery door
Wednesday I tried a fairly new tool. We’ve had a router for years and I’ve buzzed a few bull noses before, but never cut out an interior space. The router probably would have saved loads of time instead of using the coping saw. It’s all a learning process. Pulled out the router book and checkedContinue reading “Reliquary Project: Router and battery door”
