Paper Bird

Hurrah! I finally cut something new!!! The design is for an 8″x 8″ lighted piece. This is the first attempt executing the concept from drawings to cutting. I’m actually pleased with the form but still need to figure out additional tweakings. The bird was influenced by a piece of brightly-colored Mexican folk art I grewContinue reading “Paper Bird”

Attempting a little work

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! Today I finally felt inspired to start working on a new lamp design. Part of it was due to the studio cleaning on Tuesday. I eliminated clutter (well, kind of), actually put things away, and cleaned off the full drafting board surface. That surface hasn’t seen daylight in months!Continue reading “Attempting a little work”

22 days left

A blast from the not so distant past! I ran across a memory stick that had snuck it’s way into my husbands stash. On it were a few photos from 2011. Above are the 6- 4″x 4″ hand colored block prints created for a piece titled “Loop 36 Trail”. It became a sculptural work and isContinue reading “22 days left”

23 days and counting!

I’m finally starting to gear up for Philomath Open Studio Tour. Yesterday I went and reclaimed two items that had been on display for the big event. Unfortunately, one of the lamp panels was damaged from a bad repacking job. Yes, a big gouge right through the background paper. No, it’s not fixable and IContinue reading “23 days and counting!”

Work photos

Today, I had my husband take a few shots of me at work on a geranium panel. I don’t have “at work” photos and it’s probably necessary for the new crafty shop opening in Salem. People always like to see how you work and your environment. My current environment is a total looming mess thatContinue reading “Work photos”

Lighted!

The geranium leaf screen is only the third design in my collection. Will I come up with another before the end of April? Deadlines are great motivators. Last night I checked the box of finished screens and the count was now 4. Yikes! That’s not much of an inventory. I also checked through my finishedContinue reading “Lighted!”

Thai Gold and Purple

On one of my many trips to Eugene, I took the opportunity to visit Oregon Art Supply and gather up a few missing studio goodies. I was so tempted to purchase a bunch of book binding cloth and other fun stuff, but I refrained!  I kept the purchase to a minimum; new paper, photo mountContinue reading “Thai Gold and Purple”

Sticks

If one doesn’t have supplies, one can’t create. Surprisingly, I had run out of wood from a purchase back in January. It takes 9 feet of wood to create one luminaria. Local sources are not terribly reliable and are horrible at consistent pricing. Time to start searching the internet for other options. This is theContinue reading “Sticks”

Geranium on the brain

I think I must be in procrastination mode concerning the Fox Sparrow print. Maybe I shouldn’t label it procrastination because in reality, it’s about mentally sorting how the two blocks will interact. I have to have a clear image in my brain of exactly what will happen before moving forward. Drawing helps, but not today.Continue reading “Geranium on the brain”

Moving on

Another one moving out the door? It may be so! This is the Oregon Ash tree inspired piece that surprised me with the heart shape created between two panels. I really hadn’t planned it out, but there it was. So far, I’ve only created 4 of this design. Two have real homes in Oregon, oneContinue reading “Moving on”
