Wishbone

Resting on the kitchen windowsill are a pair of chicken wishbones. We haven’t pulled them apart yet, but it might be soon. A serious wish is needed for my father-in-law. I don’t mention my husbands family much but both of his parents are going through cancer. His father was doing better back in April withContinue reading “Wishbone”

Shell Sketch

This was today’s “quick” drawing of a sun-bleached whelk shell brought back from Kauai.  I think I must be wanting to head to the coast. Maybe I just want to be back in the islands away from responsibilities of life? Dreaming of less stressful days…. Anyway, it was an interesting exercise even if I didn’tContinue reading “Shell Sketch”

Limpet and the Volcano

A Keyhole Limpet shell. They resemble little volcanoes, which is very appropriate for today. Back on Sunday morning May 18, 1980, Mount St Helens in Washington State erupted.  The entire house shook with the explosion, stronger than any sonic boom I had experienced before. We lived in Eugene,  approximately 150  miles south of the mountain. Continue reading “Limpet and the Volcano”

Rainy Day scribble practice

Rain. I didn’t expect it to really come, having hoped to do a bit more yard work today. Not that a little rain will keep me from the outdoors! But here we are, Moby & I, spending some quality time indoors exploring pencils and charcoal again. I probably should be experimenting with a watercolor washContinue reading “Rainy Day scribble practice”

Sheep Print

Day 3 & Print #2 at Wingtip Press Studio workshop on Stacked Monotypes Rose worked us hard! Plus we were flat mates and spent evenings chatting and cooking dinner. I had to pull myself away from an extended evening chat just to get drawings sorted for this print. Fortunately, I seem to have landed onContinue reading “Sheep Print”

Sketching Sheep

Coming to a workshop fairly unprepared isn’t the greatest feeling, especially when images are what it’s all about! Fortunately, my computer was loaded with a variety of photos so I spent some time sketching before the second print. I’ve spent the last many months working on dogs images, so why not switch to a differentContinue reading “Sketching Sheep”

Starting the monotype process

Day 2 of the Wingtip Press Workshop: After working for a full day on reductive drawings, we were ready to start the 3 color reduction monotype (also referred to as  “stacked monotypes”). Since I didn’t bring along specific images, I chose to work from the previous days pepper drawing. I should also mention Rose learnedContinue reading “Starting the monotype process”

In the Maniere Noire style

I returned Tuesday from 4 intense days of creating art thanks to the incredible Rose Davies. She traveled from Swansea Wales (yes, from the UK!) all the way to little ol’ Idaho to introduce 6 artists to a more advanced monotype technique. The workshop was offered by Wingtip Press operated by Amy Nack in Boise.Continue reading “In the Maniere Noire style”

To go or not to go…

On Saturday and email popped up from an art friend Amy Nack of WingTip Press in Boise ID, regarding an upcoming workshop. The teacher is a fabulous artist I’ve been blog following for the past several years. Yes, Rose Davies, aka Rosie Scribblah is coming within 500 miles of me to teach a drawing/printmaking workshop.Continue reading “To go or not to go…”

Ditch Fish Project: starting to get fishy

This is my adventure into creating an art installation for the Art in Rural Storefronts project sponsored by The Arts Center of Corvallis. ARS serves regional audiences in Linn and Benton Counties by bringing innovative, thought- provoking art projects to rural communities that lack spaces dedicated to contemporary/non-commercial art.  Three artists  were chosen to participate. Continue reading “Ditch Fish Project: starting to get fishy”
