Along our coastline one will sometimes encounter little spherical jelly balls on the beach. I always loved running into these guys because I understand how beautiful they once were out in the ocean. In a past life, prior to the animal & art world, I wanted to be a marine biologist and Ctenophores were oneContinue reading “Becoming a Ctenophore”

Negotiations and playing with paper
Life has been rather full of dogs over the past several weeks leaving little time for other things. However, there have been a few art related items coming to the surface of the slobbery dog bowl. Last week I received an email from a gal in Montana requesting the use of one of my printsContinue reading “Negotiations and playing with paper”
Back in town
Hurray! Today was really about art. Not sorting, dumping, recycling items from my parents home. No emails (well, as of yet) or phone calls to tree cutters (ok, it was only texting… no phone call) siblings or other folks related to the family stuff. Today I went and helped hang work by members of thisContinue reading “Back in town”
Rivers III
Today I finally feel like my body has recovered from last weeks endevors. So, I spent the morning cutting chunks of dried branches for the twigs project… And then proceeded to finish burning and waxing of Rivers III, the commissioned piece. Always dicey during the waxing process but I think it looks pretty good. NowContinue reading “Rivers III”
Fireworks & Burning
Last night, while others were out enjoying fireworks and merriment of our country’s independence, I spent it holding my dogs “paw” while he struggled through over two hours of explosions. In hindsight, I should have requested drugs from the vet well before that night. Not everyone in our surrounding area shoots off fireworks. You neverContinue reading “Fireworks & Burning”
Stitching
Wednesday, I marked out the grid-work and then stitched it with a sewing machine. This part is always nerve racking for me due to the cumbersome feeling of working with paper. I don’t want strange creases or folds occurring so I have to be careful how I handle it. It really doesn’t drape like fabric.Continue reading “Stitching”
Moving Forward
Slowly moving forward on the commissioned work while trying to get the house ready for guests this weekend. With any luck, I’ll not do much cleaning and we’ll take them out to the coast. At least that house is clean but lacking hot water. Yes, the water heater elements or something is on the fritz.Continue reading “Moving Forward”
Overdue Start
Back in May I received a commission. Hurray! Someone really likes my work enough to REQUEST a specific piece! I was initially stumped at the request of color. Personally, I really like the subtle qualities of the River series (off-whites & tans) but I completely understand it not working on the average white household wall.Continue reading “Overdue Start”
Rejection & Acceptance
It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Who would think receiving a rejection could do that?! With everything stacking up in life, I think receiving the rejection was the best thing ever. So, what was the rejection for? The 2013 Rural Arts Project. I’ve already moved on, plotting out ideas ofContinue reading “Rejection & Acceptance”
Claybord fun
I decided to take a break and try to loosen myself up with art therapy play. Ha! My brain is racing with so many things it’s almost impossible to accomplish one task a day. So, this is what I did… Way back in 2009 I took a workshop on playing with abstracts on claybord. IContinue reading “Claybord fun”
