Slow progress forward

Little Ms Hazel is coming near the end. A few more areas to darken & a bit more definition in others. My big quandary is whether to add a dog dish or not. Since I’m feeling lazy, I probably won’t add it it, but a bit more ground work is likely so she’s sitting on something.Continue reading “Slow progress forward”

Pulling out the apron

This morning the print space was reconfigured for actual work. The inking slab cleaned of a thick dust layer, press blankets pulled out of storage and arranged in correct order, and the press uncovered and dusted. Ink had to be pulled from bins and opened. Paper scraps located and torn into test size (this is aContinue reading “Pulling out the apron”

Terrier print day 2

Slowly it’s starting to emerge. Part of me wants to dump a layer of hard ground over the plate, re-scratch lines and toss it in an acid bath. It’s been about 6 years since doing this style of printing and I’ve forgotten how difficult it is to wait as the image emerges before doing aContinue reading “Terrier print day 2”

In search of a tool

Wednesday  How long does it take to find one simple needle tool? Apparently all day. I searched through all the various tool drawers, shelves, bins, tins and even under and behind the drafting board. I checked the floor and around the press. It had to be somewhere close. Of course, it’s been a year sinceContinue reading “In search of a tool”

Dogs and copper plates

I’ve been contemplating what to create for this years “Leftovers ” print exchange. The last 3 entries have been dog portraits, something near and dear to my heart. So far my idea is to do a dry point etching of Hazel with an empty dog dish. Recently I ran across a book in my collectionContinue reading “Dogs and copper plates “

Unfinished Moby

Some days one gets inspired and then it fades…. So was the case with the Moby image today. He was laying on a sofa with his paws dangling off the edge and head resting at an odd angle over one of the fore legs. I started with graphite and never quite captured his nose and eyesContinue reading “Unfinished Moby”

Dog Distractions

I’m not certain what’s happened to this weekend, except we have an extra dog. Ms Maggie came for a short visit while her parents have a dog free mini-vacation. She’s not a stranger to our home, typically visiting several times a year. This particular visit has been extra enjoyable, probably due to only having one dog and theContinue reading “Dog Distractions”

Party Animal

Today is the birthday of an amazing artist, Rosie Scribblah. She posts daily sketches of her life in Swansea Wales. If you’ve not visited her site, click HERE. We’ve been blog friends for many years and actually spent a week together at Wingtip Press in Boise Idaho. She taught a multiple day workshop on ManierContinue reading “Party Animal”

On the flip side

While the Chihuahua waits for spray fixative before continuing forward, I decided to start another image on the back side of the board. The drawing board takes up quite a bit of studio space when propped on boxes. It was from my father’s collection and first belonged to the University of Oregon school of Architecture. IContinue reading “On the flip side”

Mr Scruffy Doodle

Yesterday was spent in Eugene helping my brother. Overall, it was a very good visit. Much laughter happened. I suspect he thinks I’m totally nuts for caring so much, but that’s how it goes. I can live with it. The month of February sketching is almost over. I didn’t manage to draw everyday, but that’sContinue reading “Mr Scruffy Doodle”
