Thanksgiving is a time for family. We spent the afternoon with my oldest brother, his girlfriend, her son’s family, and one of the nephews. Hanging out with my oldest nephew. Is he really 29? The baby wasn’t ready to hang out with me yet (clinging to grandma), but by the end of the evening, weContinue reading “Stuffing with family”

Cooling the dogs
Moby has been sacked out all day after a warm morning walk. A friend suggested giving him his own pool to play in. Duh! Why hadn’t my brain clicked into this great cooling technique??? I pulled out something close to a pool, a largish bin used for some of my projects. It did the trick.Continue reading “Cooling the dogs”
Good news and cake
Tuesday happened to be my husband’s birthday. Coworkers decorated his office and took him to lunch. I planned a yummy pesto halibut dinner with a chocolate ganache cake (gluten free of course!). A new recipe and possibly a keeper. A little more tweaking required. Might have been even better with real flour. On Tuesday, IContinue reading “Good news and cake”
Garden Harvest
Planting crops in late July probably wasn’t the best for achieving a big harvest, but it was what I could manage this season. We did grow enough purple tomatillos to make a good batch of green salsa for a dinner or two. Green tomatoes might also become something tasty. The Black Krum heirlooms really didn’tContinue reading “Garden Harvest”
Ribs
For the 4th of July, Dave decided to give grilling ribs a try. He started the process early, around 8am, since we needed to get to Eugene. By about noon, the ribs were done! Ah, the happy grill master! Lee seemed to have a bit more life in him than the previous days. New bloodContinue reading “Ribs”
Jensen Arctic Museum Annual Salmon Bake
I’m sure hoping to tempt a few friends to attend! The salmon is always great.
Salmon Smoking Weekend
What does one do with 35 pounds of refrozen salmon? Smoke it! Dave and I arrived Friday at our friend Alex’s in Waldport Oregon with salmon ready to defrost. After an incredible seafood gumbo, the guys settled on a brine recipe they cooked & cooled for the next morning. This was an all weekend eventContinue reading “Salmon Smoking Weekend”
moonstruck chocolate
My neighbor and friend Gail dropped off a little gift basket last night filled with beautiful pansies, oranges and Moonstruck Chocolate. I just had to take a photo of the pair. Art in a box. The ladybug was raspberry and the sheep chocolate. Fortunately, we didn’t have any problems eating such cute creations! Thanks Gail!
Limoncello brewing
Way back in November during a birthday party, my girlfriend Jen passed along two bottles of her homemade Limoncello. They were crafted using organic Meyer’s lemons. Bottle#1 was just the straight stuff while bottle#2 was rosemary infused. Yummy! Around the end of December/beginning of January I decided to try my hand at this amazing elixir.
