Green Leaves

I realized earlier this week the maple leaf luminaria could look just as good in a different color. Red isn’t the only option. After rummaging through the paper stash (there are numerous plus several dedicated flat file drawers) I discovered this beautiful shade of green. When paired with the blue trim it looks quite nice.Continue reading “Green Leaves”

Bird in the Hand

I’m back at it for day 2 of trying a new technique. This time around I’m using gold linoleum which certainly cuts differently than the battleship grey. Like yesterday, a dry point needle is the tool utilized and I’m and scratching with the flow of the work. The block is 6″x 6″. Block is inkedContinue reading “Bird in the Hand”

Glass

Techniques drop from my brain when they are not used consistently and it’s been over a year since creating a full luminaria. After cutting 3 panels on the self-healing mat and finger joints in pain, I recalled the use of glass. The above image shows a glass cutting board I purchased years back as aContinue reading “Glass”

Cold

Bone chilling temperatures are not part of our typical winter vocabulary here in the  Willamette Valley. Our normal December highs are in the mid 40’s, lows in the mid 30’s. Over the past 10 days we’ve been below freezing (day and night) with several nights reaching low single digits and even sub temps. Tuesday wasContinue reading “Cold”

Creating

All I want to do these days is stay in the studio and create pods. Not a horrible thing since the open studio tour is coming at the end of October. Create to sell, right?  I just wish stuff in Eugene didn’t keep requiring attention. Two pods are completed and one is waiting for copper.Continue reading “Creating”

Nasty weather

Here we are on the verge of Corvallis Fall Festival and the weather report really sucks. There are multiple storms coming to our doorstep bringing inches of rain,  30 mph gusts and flooding. Tonight the first one comes, then another moves in Saturday and yet another on Sunday. The weather service calls them “unseasonable” andContinue reading “Nasty weather”

Pods and thorns, oh my!

Today we had plenty of rain and overcast skies so it was a good day to grab some studio time. The pod is slowly pulling together.  I’m sure you’re probably wondering how many hammered copper wires get inserted into a pod form. I’ve not officially counted but it’s around 110-120 (Cynthia, each one is hammeredContinue reading “Pods and thorns, oh my!”

Thorns

I have one week to go before Fall Festival and nothing terribly interesting to bring in the 3D world. Well, at least what I consider interesting. I’m pretty sure other people have different ideas. My supply orders are slowly dribbling in the door. Still waiting for rattan and glue. No glue = no lamp/luminarias ofContinue reading “Thorns”
