Madame Grump

We are still waiting for winter in Oregon. Yes, it’s mid February, but somehow we’ve missed out on all the powerful storms and snowfall. With the lack of winter comes an early flea/tic season. The dogs received oral flea medication back on Monday after discovering a multitude of “friends” on Hazel. Today I pinched aContinue reading “Madame Grump”

Scritchy Pen

Art hasn’t been part of my daily life for quite some time. Sure, I pull out tools and beat on walls, smear joint compound over mesh seams, paint and repaint, but it’s not the same.  Sitting down with a pencil/pen in hand and attempting to fiddle with an image requires a lot more brain power.Continue reading “Scritchy Pen”

Getting Closer

I’m working like crazy to get the project completed by this Friday. Why Friday? Because I want the weekend to myself! I’m so tired of the whole thing. Yet, I have to keep plugging along and try to forget those negative thoughts as they arise. Today I started bracing parts together. What does that mean?Continue reading “Getting Closer”

Finishing the Squares

A large magnifier with light is one of the essential tools I’ve acquired from my father’s studio. It’s attached to the drafting table he used for many many years. This is the same set-up I currently use in my space. It’s nice to have a piece of his history under my hands and eyes daily.Continue reading “Finishing the Squares”

A+B=C?

Sometimes adding two images together is the answer. Or not. I’m still undecided. I like the leaf cuts and I also like the developing filbert clusters. After playing around with the printer, tracing paper, shrinking & enlarging, I might have found a possible answer for this panel. Below is the 8″ x 8″ hand cut paperContinue reading “A+B=C?”

Cropping

Tuesday was a full day of work, from cropping the image, enlarging, mounting to 2 thin sheets of plywood, drilling, and many hours of cutting. Last night Dave and I talked quite a bit about how to make the image stronger from a distance. That’s been my biggest concern with taking hand-cut paper into aContinue reading “Cropping”

8″ x 8″

So, how does one approach an idea for a wall installation? Well, I decided to start with cut paper, since that’s what got me this gig. Currently, I’m attempting to portray one of the multiple bee/honey crops out in the Halsey area. Clover, Radish, and Meadow Foam are all crops around the area for honeyContinue reading “8″ x 8″”

Radish Blooms

Sketching started today with a look at radish blooms and seed pods. The flowers are mainly white with some pink. I think, with some serious cutting I can give a good look to these plants. Hopefully. There is a lot of nice negative space created as stems and pods overlap. Somehow I need to interjectContinue reading “Radish Blooms”

Fish Character

Fish have distinct body parts that are captured with printmaking. Scales, eye, mouth, fins, tail and operculum (gill cover). The nice thing about taking a copy of the original is the ability to add and subtract from the image, increasing the fishy character. Below is the starting copy before adding lots of additional stippling withContinue reading “Fish Character”

Sheepish

I spent more of my night coughing and awake than asleep. I’m still recovering from a horrendous respiratory infection that started about 2 weeks ago. Rather than going to Eugene today, I figured another day of rest was a wise choice. I thought a quick sketch of the mama sheep from Sunday was anContinue reading “Sheepish “
