In search of a tool

Wednesday  How long does it take to find one simple needle tool? Apparently all day. I searched through all the various tool drawers, shelves, bins, tins and even under and behind the drafting board. I checked the floor and around the press. It had to be somewhere close. Of course, it’s been a year sinceContinue reading “In search of a tool”

Dogs and copper plates

I’ve been contemplating what to create for this years “Leftovers ” print exchange. The last 3 entries have been dog portraits, something near and dear to my heart. So far my idea is to do a dry point etching of Hazel with an empty dog dish. Recently I ran across a book in my collectionContinue reading “Dogs and copper plates “

Sunday Glue

I’m finally on a roll with the cases. The initial small case ended up in the junk pile due to bad cuts. Fortunately, I had more wood and the second round went smoothly. Now the cases are drying with clamps secured. Monday morning I’ll start working on the next portion of the finishing. I stillContinue reading “Sunday Glue “

Casing the Rings

Slowly it’s coming together. A bit more fidgeting required to accommodate the cut tree ring panel.  I’m so glad to have the bench router as part of the tool collection. It worked like magic once I figured out how to use it. Hopefully the cases will be glued up and dry by Sunday afternoon.Continue reading “Casing the Rings”

Almost done

Is it done yet? Nope. I thought so initially, but there needs to be more leaf work to tie the pages together. I’ve started planning the back page image of a withered dried up flower, not very beautiful, but that’s the theme of this book, the circle of life.  I’ve never spent this much timeContinue reading “Almost done “

Starting Anna’s book

I’m keeping true to my word and showing a preview of page 1, which is far from completion. Monday afternoon I finally sat down and started sketching in Anna’s book. Many months have passed since it’s arrival to Oregon. Several subject matters to tie into her ‘Circle of Life’ have come and gone. I actually startedContinue reading “Starting Anna’s book”

Getting ready for POST!

Philomath Open Studio Tour, October 24, 25, 31 & Nov. 1! Noon to 5pm each day! I’ve been slowly building up a larger lamp inventory plus one new design. I’ve also pulled up some framed hand cut paper pieces. Plus an assortment of crazy ceramics and prints of native plants and fun dogs.  Sunday weContinue reading “Getting ready for POST!”

Stitching

It’s been quite a few months since I’ve pulled out the old sewing machine. Unfortunately, it was being cantankerous and not switching over to the regular functions after winding the bobbin thread. After about 15 min of fiddling, it magically went into regular stitch mode. I “doodled” over the paper using red thread. Not certainContinue reading “Stitching”

Cell count

What have I set myself into now? Cutting plant cell structures isn’t a thrilling subject, but I’m hoping the outcome will look interesting. Boring work and I blow through loads of blades. I’m only working on the first row of three. Once completed I’ll shift to cells decay. Maybe the two sheets will be layered,Continue reading “Cell count”

Keeping it under wraps

This is the only teaser I’ll be posting of the finished “Tree Rings- One Year After Cutting”. The above work has been waxed and then lighted from behind. It’s next step will involve framing and back-lighting. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how this has turned out. There are a few glitchy things that I’m not certainContinue reading “Keeping it under wraps”
