Adding Light

When I started creating silhouette images of native (and some invasive) plants, I had wanted them to hang in windows where backlighting could increase the design contrast. Fairly quickly I shifted to creating lamps using  papercuts, but I’ve struggled achieving a really good bond between the translucent and thicker paper (not to mention how long it takes to cutContinue reading “Adding Light”

Pulling together a book

I don’t often create books anymore and I’m wondering “why not?” They’re so much fun to create. All the papers to choose, both interior & exterior. Did I mention I’m a paper addict? I’m still working out the final colors, but I need to work fast. This is part of a collaboration between 4 artists:Continue reading “Pulling together a book”

Relearning Life

Am I really home again? I could swear the warm sunny skies and sandy swim-able oceans were just a dream. The house is quiet, with exception of a ticking clock in the print zone. The cats are outside, a single Moby dog sleeping on the couch upstairs, cars moving to and fro on the mainContinue reading “Relearning Life”

An even foot

Another quick foot image today. It’s been forever since I’ve tackled attempting body parts. While in school, I loved life drawing class. Pulling out the big sheets of paper onto the drawing boards, sitting on the uncomfortable wooden benches, and getting covered in charcoal. I never dressed nicely while at university. Grubby pants &Continue reading “An even foot”

Case for the Bird

The bird light is slowly taking form. Yesterday I spent a bit of time with power tools and scrap pieces of lumber. The case is now 8″x 8″x 5.5″. It might become a bit narrower since there is a split that formed on one of the sides. I’ll need to do a bitContinue reading “Case for the Bird”

Paper Bird

Hurrah! I finally cut something new!!! The design is for an 8″x 8″ lighted piece. This is the first attempt executing the concept from drawings to cutting. I’m actually pleased with the form but still need to figure out additional tweakings. The bird was influenced by a piece of brightly-colored Mexican folk art I grewContinue reading “Paper Bird”

Camas at Home

Back on Monday, I removed the Camas installation from Halsey. De-installation is always much faster than installation. It took all of 1.5 hrs. The toughest part was finding another screwdriver to unscrew the hinges to the door panels. Normally, I overstock my supply bucket, but on this instance things were a tad bare. I hadContinue reading “Camas at Home”

Cut in red

I’m seriously considering purchasing a cutting machine to save my hands from further damage. The above stencil is 6″ wide by 15.25″ tall (15.25 x 38.7 cm). It will yield an elegant lamp in the end if I can cut and assemble it. So picture the black becoming a white/offwhite background and the red eitherContinue reading “Cut in red”
