Spring is forging ahead in our part of the country. We’ve had above average temps for most of the winter. Today should end up in the low 60’s, rather shocking for this time of the year. Many of our ski resorts are closed due to lack of snow which is a bad omen for theContinue reading “Ornamental Plum”

Quick Cat
Today’s sketch is of Nigel. I never draw the cats, so I’m not as confident working with their angles (and in Nigel’s case, the overly plump belly). It’s a Eugene day, so I don’t have the time to spend really looking at all the important parts. So it’s a quickie. I can say I didContinue reading “Quick Cat”
Eye
A Belgium draft horse, belonging to a dear friend, became my subject matter for today’s drawing of an eye. I love going out to their farm to see the critters. Giant horses, sheep, and plenty of wildlife. During the summer, their garden is huge! So much time and care involved with everything on the property.Continue reading “Eye”
Shorebird
I was reading online about the February drawing challenge. One sketch/drawing a day for 28 days. Since I really need something to keep me motivated, I’ve decided to give it a try. My studio has been undergoing a bit of a cleaning and I ran across a photo of a sandpiper (or something similar)Continue reading “Shorebird”
Aperitif and winding down
Is it really only January 2? It feels like more time has already passed since yesterday. Probably something to do with waking up at 4 am and not getting back to sleep. I spent an hour of my morning in the dentist chair, cringing at a teeth cleaning. It would have been more comfortable ifContinue reading “Aperitif and winding down”
Watering Can
I spend a fair amount of time sitting with ice packs on my feet and ankles, 2-3 times a day. Most days I grab the computer and a cup of coffee in the morning before settling in for 30 min of cold. At night I watch something on TV. Why not sketch something instead?! Anything!Continue reading “Watering Can”
Out of town break
Sometimes you just need to get away with friends. Especially those that take you to art stores! We had a “art gals” day in McMinnville to visit a few galleries and spend an enormous amount of time combing through the Merri Artist, an art supply store. I have to admit a lot of my suppliesContinue reading “Out of town break”
Noodle Doodle
I now know why I don’t sketch around the house. Both doodles and Moby work hard at trying to remove pen and sketchbook from my grasp. Moby was overly enthusiastic today, jumping up and placing his paws on my chest. Reggie was trying to shove his ball on the sketchbook. Hint hint! I guess theContinue reading “Noodle Doodle”
Cooling the dogs
Moby has been sacked out all day after a warm morning walk. A friend suggested giving him his own pool to play in. Duh! Why hadn’t my brain clicked into this great cooling technique??? I pulled out something close to a pool, a largish bin used for some of my projects. It did the trick.Continue reading “Cooling the dogs”
Filling in the page
Last night I was too tired and hot to even consider picking up a pencil. My day had been filled with more time in Eugene working on the house. Dinner didn’t even come together until after 9pm, but those pesto turkey burgers were yummy! Moby’s next image came this morning as I worked on myContinue reading “Filling in the page”
