Artists Running Amok- part 1

Oh yes, last night we sprinted between studios during the first night of pre-tour for the 2015 Philomath Open Studios. We managed to make it to 9 out of 17 studios. We have one more night to cover the remaining 8. Saturday, the studios all open at noon for the public. Let the sales begin!Continue reading “Artists Running Amok- part 1”

Art in the hot garden

Saturday was humid and hot. Driving over, I actually encountered a pretty good rain shower, then had a touch more right at opening. With the spotting of rain, the humidity pushed way up and probably kept us from getting to 100 F. Instead we made it into the mid 90’s. The garden was spectacular and crammed withContinue reading “Art in the hot garden”

Camas at Home

Back on Monday, I removed the Camas installation from Halsey. De-installation is always much faster than installation. It took all of 1.5 hrs. The toughest part was finding another screwdriver to unscrew the hinges to the door panels. Normally, I overstock my supply bucket, but on this instance things were a tad bare. I hadContinue reading “Camas at Home”

Book and Brooch

A couple days ago I found a box of books while cleaning out more of the garage. These were the ones I was unable to part with after clearing out my parents home. Last night I pulled one out and started folding the above creation. This particular book was titled  Analytical Mechanics for Engineers, 3rd edition, 1941.Continue reading “Book and Brooch”

The big move: Camas installation in Halsey

The Camas are finally at their new home! So how does one move 7 panels and 8 camas 20.7 miles? Carefully and in 2 trips. Start by hinging panels.   Then load in the back of the car. Take to the newly painted and roofed library building in Halsey. And start installing while having aContinue reading “The big move: Camas installation in Halsey”

Camas Installation: day one

Today was the easiest part of the install, delivering the camas. I gently placed them in the car, removed all the honey bees wishing to tag along (always an issue with bees wax) and off I went.   It is a breezy afternoon and I almost had a camas incident when they were all leaningContinue reading “Camas Installation: day one”

Sticking Seed

Attaching grass seed securely and keeping it from falling off the forms during wax application ended up being a challenging task. I could imagine the wax bath becoming clogged with oodles and oodles of loose seed. A cleaning nightmare!  First idea: sandwich seed between 2 sheets of paper, similar to what I did with the ashes.Continue reading “Sticking Seed”

Productive day

It was quite the day. I worked on finally finishing off part of the purple flowers with gold stamens. Now I need to create more stamens and cover them in gold leaf. The doors started receiving some drawing tests. That’s Mary’s peak on the right. It happens to be the highest peak of the coastContinue reading “Productive day”

Painting

During childhood, my sister caught me drawing on the walls and curtains of her bedroom. I was probably only 5 or 6 years old. In my brain, they needed color (which happened to be an orange crayon). Big sister wasn’t terribly fond of me after that (but she got over it).  I even pushed myContinue reading “Painting”
